Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Wesson Oil
  • 3/4 cup chopped onion
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup lemon juice
  • 3 Tablespoons sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons mustard
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Preparation

Step 1

In saucepan saute onions in oil until tender. Add remaining ingredients, stir thoroughly and simmer for one hour uncovered.

FOR BARBECUING CHICKEN OUTDOORS:

Brush sauce on halves of broiler chickens before and during broiling. Broil 30 to 45 minutes — 12 to 14 inches from coals. Start with inside of chicken down facing coals and turn to finish with skin side down. Serve with remaining sauce.

FOR BARBECUING CHICKEN INDOORS:

Brush sauce on chicken as above and broil 30 to 45 minutes, 5 to 7 inches from heat. Start with skin side down on rack and turn to finish with skin side up.
