  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • Frosting:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp. salt
  • 8-10 Tbls. milk
  • 4 tsp. vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Using a mixer, cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well. Add the vanilla.

In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, salt, and baking soda. Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients in the mixing bowl and mix until just combined.

Spread the mixture evenly (you will need to use your hands) onto a greased 12″x18″ baking sheet. Bake at 375F for 10-15 minutes or until light brown. Do not over bake! Frost when cool and cut into bars.

For the frosting: Cream butter until very fluffy. Add part sugar and salt and beat again. Continue adding sugar and milk in small batches, alternately, beating until very fluffy. Stir in vanilla. Food coloring can be added.
