Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, peeled and chopped
  • 2 t. vegetable oil
  • 1 box (10 oz.) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
  • 1 T. Greek seasoning
  • 1 pkg. (4 oz.) crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 10 sheets phyllo dough, divided
  • 5 T. melted butter, divided
  • 1/4 cup grated Romano cheese, divided

Step 1

Heat oven to 350 degrees. In skillet over medium heat, cook beef and onions in oil 8 minutes or until browned, stirring occasionally to break up meat. Season with salt and ground black pepper, if desired. Drain meat mixture.
In bowl, combine beef mixture, spinach and seasoning. Let cool 5 minutes. Stir in feta cheese and eggs.
Place 5 sheets phyllo dough on work surface. Using 2 T. butter, brush each seet. Sprinkle 1 t. Romano over each sheet; stack sheets and set aside. Repeat with reamining phyllo sheets, 2 T. butter and 5 t. Romano. Place sheets crosswide over first stack. Place sheets in greased 9" springform pan with extra dough hanging over rim. Spoon beef mixture into pan, folding dough over filling to cover. Brush top with remaining butter; sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake 45 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool 10 minutes.
