Ingredients

  • FILLING:
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • 6 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well.
Fill paper-lined muffin cups half full. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes or until top of cupcake appears set.
Meanwhile, in a small bowl, beat the egg, brown sugar and salt just until combined. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop filling by rounded tablespoonfuls into the center of each cupcake. Bake 10 minutes longer or until a toothpick inserted in the cake portion comes out clean.
Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely. Yield: 1 dozen.
