Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup margarine, softened
  • 2/3 cup raisins
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 F. Grease a large baking sheet.

In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, margarine, and raisins. Stir in 1 cup buttermilk and egg.

Knead dough on a lightly floured surface. Form into a round; place on sheet.

In a small bowl, combine melted butter and ¼ cup buttermilk; brush loaf. Cut an “X” into top and bake 45–50 minutes, or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Serve with preserves.
