Ingredients
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 (12 ounce) bag cranberries, picked through
- Apple Raisin Cranberry Sauce
- Slightly sweet apples such as Golden Delicious or Gala work best for this recipe. Shred the apple on the large holes of a box grater.
- Prepare cranberry sauce, replacing water with 3/4 cup apple cider and sugar with 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar. Add 1 apple, peeled, cored and shredded; 1/4 cup golden raisins; and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon along with cranberries.
- Orange-Maple Cranberry Sauce
- Prepare cranberry sauce, replacing water with 3/4 cup orange juice and sugar with 1/2 cup maple syrup. Add pinch of cayenne pepper along with cranberries. After transferring sauce to serving bowl, stir in 1 orange, peeled, segmented, and chopped.
- Pear-Ginger Cranberry Sauce
- Prepare cranberry sauce, replacing water with 3/4 cup ginger beer and reducing sugar to 3/4 cup. Add 1 firm pear, peeled, cored and shredded, and 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger along with cranberries.
- Raspberry Lemon Cranberry Sauce
- Fresh or thawed frozen raspberries can be used in this recipe. Sprite and 7Up are both good soda choices here. Don’t use diet soda
- Prepare cranberry sauce, replacing water with 3/4 cup lemon-lime soda and reducing sugar to 3/4 cup. After transferring sauce to serving bowl, stir in 1 cup raspberries and 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest.

Step 1
Bring water, sugar and salt to boil in medium saucepan over medium heat. Add cranberries and simmer until slightly thickened and two thirds of berries have burst, about 5 minutes. Transfer to serving bowl and cool completely, at least 1 hour. Serve. (Sauce can be refrigerated for 1 week.)
