Ingredients

  • 6 eggs, separated
  • pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup cake flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • juice of 1 orange
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • powdered sugar

Preparation

Step 1

1. Beat egg whites, cream of tartar and pinch of salt until whites hold shape. Gradually add 3/4 c sugar and 1/2 c cake flour. Place 1/4 tsp vanilla in bottom of an ungreased tube pan. Pour batter on top.

2. Beat egg yolks till creamy and yellow. Slowly add 3/4 c sugar and salt. Beat 3 minutes. Sift together 3/4 c cake flour and baking powder. Add alternately to yolks with boiling water. Put 3/4 tsp vanilla on egg white batter. Pour yellow batter on top.

3. Bake at 325 degrees, 45 minutes then turn up to 375 degrees for 15 minutes.

4. Orange Glaze: Cream butter and powdered sugar with orange juice.
