  • 1 cup sugar,divided
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 5 egg whites
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups of flour
  • 1 1/2 tsps of baking powder
  • 1 can (14 oz) of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (5oz) of evaporated milk
  • 1/2 pint (1 cup) of whipping cream
  • Maraschino cherries

Step 1

pre-heat oven to 350f butter and flour bottom of 9 inch pan. beat the egg yolks with 3/4 cup of sugar untill light in color and double in volume.stir in milk,vanilla,flour and baking powder.in small bowl beat egg whites untill they form soft peaks,gradually add in remaining sugar,beat untill firm but not dry. gently fold in egg whites into the yolk mixture, pour into prepared pan. bake for 45 to 50 min or untill cake tester inserted comes out clean. cool for 10 min. loosen edge of cake with knife before removing cake from pan.invert cake into a deep serving dish and use two prong meat fork or cake tester to pierce surface of cake. mix sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk in a bowl. pour milk mixture slowly over cake untill it is absorbed. beat whipping creamuntill thickened and of spreading consistency(do not overbeat) frost cake with whipped cream and refrigerate. garnish with cherries if desired.
