Ingredients

  • Pudding:
  • 1 loaf white or French bread (3 cups 3/4" cubes)
  • 1-2 c milk (until very mushy)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 carton sour cream (8oz.)
  • 1/4 t nutmeg
  • 1/2 t cinnamon
  • 1 T vanilla
  • 1/2 cup white raisins
  • Sauce:
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1/3 c bourbon

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350F. Put bread in a bowl with milk and sour cream. Squeeze with your hand until well saturated with milk. In mixer on high speed beat eggs with sugar until thick and pale.

Stir in vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and raisins. Add soaked bread to egg mix and stir. Let stand 10 mins.

Transfer to greased baking dish. Bake until firm and knife comes out clean. About 45-50 mins. Let cool slightly in dish.

Sauce:
Beat eggs until thick and pale.
In a saucepan, melt butter and sugar. Pour mixture over eggs, beating constantly until think add bourbon.
