Ingredients
- Syrup:
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 2 cups brown sugar
- Batter:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 cup sugar
- salt
- vanilla

Step 1
Combine flour with brown sugar, adding the water and maple syrup in a small saucepan. Heat just as to melt the brown sugar. Pour the syrup in a buttered ovenproof dish.
For the batter, cream butter and gradually add the sugar and the eggs. Beat thoroughly for a few minutes. Sift flour and measure it; add the baking powder and the salt. Combine to the batter, alternating with the flour and the milk. Add vanilla to taste. Pour the dough over the syrup mixture and bake in 375˚F for 30 to 40 minutes.
