Ingredients
- 3/4 cup Hershey's® cocoa
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 3/4 cup boiling water
- 1/4 cup Crisco
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup buttermilk

Step 1
1. Grease sides of two 9" round cake pans; line bottoms with waxed paper. Stir together cocoa and boiling water until smooth. Cool and set aside.
2. Cream butter or margarine, Crisco and sugar until light and fluffy; blend in salt, eggs and vanilla.
3. Stir baking soda into buttermilk; add alternately with flour to creamed mixture. Add reserved cocoa mixture; blend thoroughly. Pour batter into pans; bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pan; remove from pans and cool completely and frost.
