CHICKEN CORDON BLEU CRESCENT RING 1 Picture

Ingredients

  • 2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 cups shredded cooked chicken
  • 1/2 cup chopped cooked bacon (about 6 slices)
  • 1/2 cup chopped cooked ham
  • 3/4 cup shredded Swiss cheese (12 oz)
  • 2 cans (8 oz each) Pillsbury® refrigerated crescent

Preparation

Step 1



Heat oven to 375°F.
Lightly spray 18x13-inch cookie sheet with cooking spray.

In large bowl, stir together cream cheese, garlic salt and onion powder until evenly combined. Add chicken, bacon, ham and Swiss cheese; stir to combine, making sure to evenly coat all ingredients in cream cheese mixture. Set aside.

Using 1 can of crescent dough, separate dough into 4 rectangles (2 crescents per section); place on cookie sheet in circular shape resembling a compass, one rectangle pointing north, one pointing east, one pointing south and the last one pointing west.

Using second can of dough, separate dough into 4 rectangles. Filling gaps of first layer, arrange rectangles in similar circular shape, only this time having one pointing northeast, one pointing southeast, one pointing southwest and the last one pointing northwest.

Evenly spoon cream cheese mixture over dough; mold mixture into shape of ring on center of dough circle, making sure to leave about 1/2-inch gap of dough in center of ring.

Fold outer edges of dough ring over filling to dough without filling in center of ring. Press dough edges to seal completely so filling does not leak out during baking. Seal all gaps, openings and edges to completely cover filling with dough and make a smooth and uniform appearance.

Bake 20 minutes or until top is golden brown. Cool 5 to 10 minutes before cutting into servings. Serve warm.

Back in the mid-60s, I had to create a variation of the Classic Cordon Bleu for my Home Economics class. My recipe is almost identical to yours. Too funny! I used chicken breasts that I pounded out. I used prosciutto as my ham & laid a slice on each breast. I used cream cheese mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, and thyme. I spread that on top of the prosciutto slices. I, then, topped it off with gouda cheese. I, then, rolled it up. Rolled it in melted butter and then into homemade seasoned bread crumbs: thyme, garlic salt, & onion powder. Baked it in the oven. Served it with cranberry sauce. A few years later, I created a nice wine sauce for it.

Your presentation is lovely & very festive looking. A serving bowl filled with cranberry sauce & placed in the center of the ring would really add that wow! This would really make a great appetizer for a party, too. Just slice into small wedges/slices. I think the bacon is a great addition. Wondering how dijon mustard would go with it. Hmm__m?

beyond yummy... I went as low fat as possible but then used Oscar Myer real bacon bits. I microwaved the cream cheese for 2 miniutes, stirring half way through. I diced precooked carved chicken... you can put this together easily. Dont worry about gasps until the end and pretend you are forming clay ... get it smooth... and uniform. 25 minuites at 375 worked good

sounds really simple & good. i have made one in the past w/broccoli, ham & swiss cheese among a few other things. it was very tasty & became one of my daughter's favorites. we used to enjoy it for a quick & light supper.

This looks delicious...Jus­t thinking I might use the Pillsbury crescent baking sheets and make two "loaves" instead of the ring to alleviate the "doughiness."

Mine was doughy in the middle even after cooking for over 20 minutes. The filling is delicious though! I think I will try to make the hole in the middle bigger next time and see if that helps.
