buying and planning in bulk

By

I just received your magazine today and have to reply to Cindy Smirnoff regarding her buying and planning in bulk. i have done this for years but I go one step further. After I buy in bulk, I come home, put some of the ground chuck in hamburger patties, place each patty in a fold over sandwich bag (this makes it easy to separate how many you want) and then freeze the patties. Other hamburger is browned, drained, placed in bag and frozen flat. The bags are marked with the amount (1, 1 1/2 or 2 lbs) and the date I placed in the freezer. If you are making tacos or a meat sauce for spaghetti, lasagna, soups, etc., you can take out an already cooked bag of meat and cut your prep time when you are the most busy. Also, I make my meatballs for spaghetti, cook them in the oven, and then freeze. When I want to do spaghetti, it is simply just take out how many meatballs I want (thre are only 2 of us) and finish cooking. Yes, I am busy when I get done with shopping but really cut down on prep times on days that I don't want to or don't have time to spend a lot of time putting dinner together.
