A big recipe for mosit, spicy and sweet bars with a cake like texture- filled with raisins and nuts. Easy to make and bake. If the recipe makes more than you want, make half.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups raisins
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg slightly beaten
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp ground allspice
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup chopped walnut
  • 2/3 cup confectioners sugar
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp grated lemon zest

Step 1

1. Preheat oven to 375F. Grease a 13x9" baking pan. Combine the raisins and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add the oil and butter. STir, and let cool to lukewarm. Beat in the egg and brown sugar.

2. Combine the flour, salt, baking soda, connamon, clvoes, allspice and nutmeg. Stir together.

3. Add to the first mixture and beat until thoroughly blended. Stir in the chopped nuts. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for about 20 mins, or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

4. Meanwhile, combine the confectioners sugar, lemon juice and zest in a bowl and stir briskly until well blended.

5. Remove bars from the oven and cool the pan on a wire rack. Pour lemon glaze over the bars while they are still warm. Cut into bars about 2"x1 1/2".
