  • 4 cube steaks
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cans beef broth
  • 1 can golden mushroom soup
  • 1 white onion, cut into 1/4-inch slices and separated into rings

Preparation

Step 1

Season steaks with salt and pepper.

Place flour in large soup plate or pie pan. Dredge steaks in flour, coating completely.

Heat oil in a large skillet on medium high heat. Fry two floured steaks in skillet until just brown, about 3 minutes per side. Transfer steaks to paper towel to drain. Repeat with remaining steaks.

Sprinkle remaining flour from plate into remaining oil in skillet (do not remove pan drippings from skillet). Stir continuously until paste is dark brown about 3 minutes. Reduce heat to low. Whisk in beef broth. Stir in soup. Return steaks to skillet, submerging in gravy completely. Top with onion rings. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes, or until gravy is thick. Season gravy to taste.
