Ingredients

  • Pastry for a two-crust pie
  • 5 to 7 tart apples (6 cups, thinly sliced)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Preparation

Step 1

Pare and slice apples. Mix dry ingredients together and toss with apples, coating them well. If mixture seems too dry, add the juice of 1/2 lemon.

Place bottom crust in a 9-inch pie plate and fill with apple mixture. Dot the apple mixture with butter. Cover with the top crust and cut slits in the top.

Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for another 40 minutes.
