  • 1 pkg (50-60) carmels
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 package german chocolate cake mix
  • 3/4 cup margarine, melted
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 cups chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Combine caramels and 1/2 cup evaporated milk. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until melted. Set aside.

Grease and flour 9x13 inch pan. In large bowl, combine cake mix and melted butter, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and nuts. Mixture will be thick. Press and spread half of this mixture in pan. Reserve remainder for topping. Bake 350 degrees for 8 minutes.

Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over baked crust. Spread caramel mixture over chocolate pieces. Now crumble remainder of dough over caramel layer. Return to oven and bake for 18-20 minutes. Cool slightly, then refrigerate to set for about 30 minutes. Cut into 36 or more bars. Store in refrigerator. Freezes well.
