REVIEWS:
I make a dessert once a week for our card party. They loved this!
This is so easy and oh! so yummy...Everyone loved it...no leftovers!
I love this cake! I made it for school and everyone thought it was amazing!
Pretty damn good recipe. My only complaint is that the directions are different on the box than online. Is it a 15x10x1-inch pan or a 13x9x2 inch pan? After reading some of the negative reviews I almost skipped trying this one out but then I gave Crocker the benefit of the doubt and decided to ignore the reviews and just follow the instructions on the box very carefully. I used the 15x10x1 pan as instructed and can't imagine that it would have worked very well in a deeper, shorter pan (13x9x2), which I saw many reviewers saying they used- so note to people that didn't like the outcome: Use the 15x10x1" pan and I bet it will work out much better! We were a bit confused on how the cookie was supposed to drop and form the bottom layer but once it was done cooking it made more sense. (Would have been nice for the recipe to assure that the cookie will go to the bottom eventually) Although, it didn't form an even flat bottom as the photo above seems to display- even dropping small balls quite close together, it formed more of a partial cookie bottom/and cookie chunks throughout the cake- still yummy though! Lastly, I noticed that when you do this special recipe it omits the vegatable oil that is normally used when cooking the Yellow Supermoist Cake. Maybe this is a reason for the bit of dryness?? Ours wasn't "dry" but it definitely wasn't the usual "supermoist" you get when you just cook the cake recipe on it's own. Anyway, if you have some spare time this is a good one but it did take quite a while to prepare. Also, it only took about 30 - 35 minutes on 350 in my gas oven. Had I left in it for some of the longer times mentioned here by other reviewers, it would have burned. I attribute this also to the length and depth of the pan. Hence why I suggest using the 15x10x1" pan, it will cook faster and more evenly. Good luck to those who attempt this recipe! Great if you want to try something new and stray away from the usual basic desserts.
I just made this cake, I have to agree, it was a little dry.I followed the recipe to a T...But it is good, and could be eaten with out frosting. And it baked about 50 min.
I made this cake because I had an extra box of cake mix and thought it came out wonderful! It was very moist and the cookie at the bottom was a bonus. I made my own frosting since I didn't have a can. Not sure why others cake came out dry or crumbled. Everyone loved it! Would definitely make again!!
I made this today for my Boyfriend's Birthday and it came out perfect. I'm only 18 and a very ammeter baker, and pulled it of with no problem. It was far from dry and the cookie dough dropped through perfectly. I was leery after reading some of the disappointed comments, But believe me, if it can do it, you can. And it WILL come out as long as you follow the recipe.
This is really a good cake. After reading some of the reviews I decided to use a larger baking pan 10x15 and baked it for about 48 minutes and it turned out wonderful. I took it to work and everyone loved it.
I made this cake for my son's birthday. The cookie part of the cake was very good. I think maybe next time I'll use a chocolate cake mix instead of yellow. Got some compliments on it though. Very different recipe.
I did not have a problem with the moistness of this cake. My cake did not hold its consistency. It crumbled. However it was a hit. Not sure if I would make it again. Also, the set time to bake is wrong. My cake would have burnt if I left it in the oven for an hour. I would recommend to check on it about 47-50 min.
This cake is the best! I made it for my little sisters and parents and everyone loved it. I accidently used butter cake mix instead of yellow cake mix, but it was still delicious! I would recommend this for anyone with some time on their hands. (It took me a while to make the cake batter and cookie dough...but it was way worth it!!!)Great recipe Betty Crocker!
I believe that a cake should be able to hold its own without frosting, which this cake cannot do. To be fair to the originators of the recipe I made a few changes (used chocolate cake mix, buttermilk instead of regular milk, added almost 1/2 cup of sour cream). The cake came out as dry as a desert. My son thought the dropped cookies at the bottom where cool, and I have to agree with him on that point. However, because of the dryness of this cake I will not be making it again.
I made this recipe, but the cake came out extraordinarily dry. I served it with ice cream to help the texture. I''m not quite sure what I did wrong!
I thought this cake was delicious. I made it for a BBQ and everyone loved it! I also found it fun to make with the cookies sinking to the bottom!
This cake was so very good. Everyone who tried it fell in love. My sister had to have two pieces which she ate! My cookie dough did not all go to the bottom but it was so very good, no one noticed!
I have made this cake many times for family, friends, and boyfriends co-workers. And they all keep asking for it. The only problem I have had with it is that the outside gets overdone and the middle is not quite done but if I use a 9x13 it works just fine. I have never had a problem with it being dry. This cake is absolutely wonderful and I am passing the recipe along to all my friends.
I made this cake and it was awful. It was very dry and had an awful buttery taste. I threw this recipe away because I will never make it again.
My kids absolutely loved this cake!! The cookie on the bottom was a real surprise and they have asked for it again!
I thought this cake had good flavor but was dry. The texture was just okay. I wouldn''t make it again.
