  • 1 whole chicken
  • 2 cups of chicken broth
  • 3 carrots
  • 3 parsnips
  • 3 potatoes
  • 1 small turnip
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • flour
  • water

Remove skin and any excess fat from the chicken, rinse & pat dry. Pour chicken broth in large pot, then place ready chicken in pot. Bring to a boil. In the mean time peel & cut veggies into large pieces. Add to pot and decrease temperature to a simmer. Let simmer covered for 1 1/2 hours. Check chicken with a fork to be sure it is cooked through. Should fall apart very easy with a fork. Remove from pot, along with veggies.

In a small sealable container mix about 1/4 cup of water with 1 to 2 tbsp of flour. Seal and shake well. Add flour mix to hot broth allowing it to heat through and thicken into a gravy.

Note: you can also parboil the chicken to make for easy removal of the skin and extra fat.
