Ingredients
- 1 c (6 oz) semi sweet chocolate chips
- 1 c milk chocolate chips
- 1 T shortening
- 1 pkg (14 oz) caramels
- 2 T butter or margarine
- 3 T milk
- 2 c coarsely chop pecans

Step 1
Line 8" pan with buttered foil; set aside. Melt both chips & shortenting in heavy small saucepan over very low heat, stir constantly. Spoon half mix into prepared pan, spreading evenly over bottom & 1/4" up sides of pan. Refrigerate until firm.
Combine caramels, butter & milk in heavy medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stir constantly. When mixture is smooth, stir in pecans. cool to lukewarm. Spread caramel mixture evenly over chocolate in pan. melt remaning chocolate mixture again over very low heat, stir constantly; spread over caramel layer. Refrigerate until almost firm (easier to cut if chocolate not completely firm). Cut into squares. Store in refrigerator.
