- 1 tbsp canola oil
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 4 cups water
- 1 tsp salt

Step 1
Combine oil and cumin in a med pan over med-high heat. Stir until fragrant 1-2 minutes.
Add rice and cook, stirring until rice gives off a mild, toasted fragrance, about 1 minute.
Add water and salt. Bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer vigorously covered, until rice is tender and water absorbed (10 minutes). Let stand another 5 minutes to finish cooking.
