French Fried Onions

Ingredients
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 3 Bermuda or mild white onions, sliced 1/4-inch thick and separated into rings
- 1 cup flour
- Fat for deep-frying

Step 1
In a bowl, combine milk and egg. Beat well. Pour into a shallow pan. Drop a few onion rings into the pan. With fingers, turn rings until each is well-coated. Lift out. Drain off excess mixture.
Place one cup flour in a small bowl. Then, drop rings into the bowl of flour, a few at a time. Turn to coat well. Shake to remove excess flour.
Fill French-frying basket only 1/4 full of onions. Set the basket into deep fat (375 degrees). Stir once with a fork to separate.
When onion rings are golden brown, remove from fat and drain on paper toweling.
To keep onions crisp, don't salt until just before serving.
