Preparation

Step 1

Combine pretzel mix and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Add warm water, oil, cinnamon and chocolate chips and stir until thoroughly combined. (Dough may be stiff; use hands if desired).
Cover dough and let rise 25 minutes in a warm, draft-free place. (Dough will not double in size.)
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Divide dough into 8 equal portions; roll each into an 18-inch long rope. Cut each rope into 12 pieces. (Cut rope in half, then each portion in half again and then cut each portion into 3 pieces. Each will be about 1-1/2 inches long.) Place the pieces (bites) on 2 greased baking sheets (they can be placed quite close together). Cover bites with towel to prevent them from drying out. Repeat with remaining dough.
Brush egg wash over bites.
Bake for 5 minutes and then switch pans to promote more even browning. Bake an additional 5 to 7 minutes or UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN. Remove bites from baking sheets immediately and let cool on wire rack.
Brush butter over bites and sprinkle with pretzel salt. OR, for a sweeter flavor, sprinkle with crystal or sanding sugar instead of the pretzel salt.
Let cool on wire rack. Delicious served with chocolate sauce!

Recipe Note: Water temperature is lower for this recipe to prevent chocolate from melting.
