Preparation

Step 1

Mom: puts it in water and once it comes to a boil, she cooks it for 15-20 minutes which she thinks has a lot to do with tenderness of the skin. She also freezes it whether it’s cooked or not cooked. If cooked, dad might take a piece out and heat it up in hot or boiling water and puts it on piece of bread. She even defrosts or heats it up in microwave.

Denise: puts it in water, brings it to a boil and then turns it down to a simmer for 10 min…she’s familiar with how well Greg’s kielbasa is smoked…if not familiar with how well it’s smoked, she would recommend maybe 15 min?

Craig: he’ll put it in boiling water but he too has also just put it in water, and once it comes to a boil, turns temp down to a steady simmer and cooks it for 5-7 minutes. He thinks mom over cooks hers and he compares it to cooking a hotdog in that you wouldn’t boil a hotdog for 15 minutes! He also says that Greg’s kielbasa is dark and almost shriveled which is indicative of how well smoked it is….if dealing with a lighter kielbasa, probably suggests cooking it for at least 7 minutes…maybe 10 min.

10 minutes seems to be the magic number.

Craig also says that you one will or should be able to tell if the kielbasa is smoked or not based on color..if it’s unsmoked, kielbasa will probably look white or similar to raw sausage (??).
