Apple Pie by Grandma Ople
By Coldsnap46
"A unique and popular recipe. This fabulous recipe adds a delicious twist to the apple classic. Sliced, unadorned apples are mounded into a pie crust and topped with a lattice crust. Then, just before baking, a sweet, thick sugar syrup is poured carefully onto the crust. An hour later, the apples are tender and fragrant and the crust a glistening brown." --AllRecipes

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add water, white sugar and brown sugar, and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer.
Place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill with apples, mounded slightly. Cover with a lattice work crust. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust. Pour slowly so that it does not run off.
Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft.

1. Be sure to place a cookie sheet lined with foil or parchment under the baking dish to catch any bubbling over.
2. Don't start the sugar mix until all your prep is done and your pie is ready to be made.
3. Most agreed, if you want to add cinnamon, add it to the apples, not the sauce. Many added nutmeg as well.
4. Several reviewers simply poured 3/4 of the mixture over the apples and tossed gently before putting the lattice crust on. Then poured the rest of the sugar mixture over the crust.
