Ingredients

  • 12 cups applesauce (home-made, if possible)
  • 2 cups packed dark brown sugar
  • 6 T. balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup butter (+ 1/4 cup for later)
  • 3 Tbls. ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg (fresh ground, if possible)
  • 4 tsp. vanilla

Step 1

Combine applesauce in the slower cooker, along with sugar, vinegar, 1/2 cup butter, cinnamon, salt and cloves. Cover; cook on LOW for 8 hours.

Stir in remaining 1/4 cup butter and vanilla. Cool completely.

When canning:

Sterilize canning jars, lids and rings by boiling them in a large pot of water.

Fill the jars, leaving 1/2" headspace.

Place lids and rings on jars. Close tightly. Place in boiling water and process for 15 minutes.
