Ingredients
- SAUCE:
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 clove garlic, minced
- 3 tbsp olive oil or canola oil
- 1 (28 ounce) can Unico crushed tomatoes
- 1 (28 ounce) can water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp dried oregano leaves
- 2 tbsp dried italiano spice
- 1 tsp basil leaves
- 1 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes or to taste (this might be a tad on the hot side)
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp seasoning salt
- MEATBALLS:
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 5 eggs
- 1/2 cup cracker crumbs
- 1 tsp dried oregano leaves
- 2 tsp dried italiano spice
- 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes or to taste (this might be a tad on the hot side)
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp seasoning salt

1. In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, saute the onion and garlic in oil until tender. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, water, sugar, oregano leaves, italiano spice, basil leaves, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
2. Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine the eggs, cracker crumbs, oregano leaves, italiano spice, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Shape into 1 ½” meatballs (easier to roll if your hands are a little moist).
3. Add meatballs to sauce. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Serve meatballs and sauce over spaghetti of your choice. Makes approximately 24 meatballs.
