Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup flour
- 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
- 4 tbs sugar
- 1 tbs baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled
- 1 egg, room temperature
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup dried cranberries
- 1/2 cup chopped dates
- 1/4 cup chopped pistachios
- 1 tsp finely grated orange zest
- 2 tbs decorative sugar (optional)

Preparation
Step 1
Heat oven to 375 degress. Brush scone pan with oil. Whisk together flours, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut chilled butter into dry ingredients with pastry blender until crumbly. Make a well in the center of mix. Combine egg and buttermilk, pour into well. Stir until dry ingredients are moistened. Gently fold fruits, nuts and zest into mix. Do not overmix. Spoon into pan. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 15-20 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
