My son asked the cook at his school for this recipe to bring home to his Mom because he loved it so much. I made it for him regularly, and now his wife has the recipe and makes it for their family.

Ingredients

  • White sauce:
  • 2 C water
  • 2 C diced potatoes
  • 1/2 C diced carrots
  • 1/2 C diced celery
  • 1/4 C chopped onion
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 C butter
  • 1/4 C flour
  • 2 C milk
  • 2 C cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 C cubed ham

Preparation

Step 1

Combine water, potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, salt and pepper in large kettle. Boil 10 - 12 minutes.

In smaller saucepan, make white sauce by melting butter. Add flour and stir until smooth (about 1 minute) Slowly add milk; cook until thickened. Add grated cheese to white sauce, and stir until melted.

Add white sauce and cubed ham to vegetables that have not been drained. Heat through.
