Preparation
Step 1
Open the bag, scoop some taco meat inside, and then add your favorite toppings. Our toppings included black beans (which add some bulk if you’re trying to feed a crowd), lettuce, tomato, sour cream, shredded cheese, and a salsa/ranch mixture.
ranch/salsa mixture (1:1 ratio prepared ranch dressing and your favorite salsa)
Brown beef or turkey and drain the fat. Add the onion to the meat and sautee a couple of minutes until soft. Add the taco seasoning along with 1/2 cup of water and simmer until water is absorbed. If serving immediate pour in a bowl. You can also combine the meat and black beans if you want and keep them warm in a slow cooker.
Crush your chips with your hands and open your bag. Add whatever toppings you desire and eat with a fork as you walk around! I always drizzle it with my ranch/salsa mixture.
Ranch/Salsa is just what it sounds like. 1 part ranch and 1 part salsa mixed together. Makes a great dressing for a salad or for these walking tacos. Guess what’s on my menu this weekend?

These make great camping food! I love your photos.
We had these in high school. The student government would make these for us and we’d go outside and eat them with live music and stuff. It was super fun- and they are super yummy. I will need to make these for my husband for fun sometime!

Can this be made ahead of time and place in a lunch pail to be eaten 3 – 4 hrs later? Sounds great
This is a very clever idea. Sounds easy enough to make. I actually think it’s kind of healthy because just a small snack size bag of Fritos will ensure you don’t overeat. Definitely can’t wait to try these!
Such a cute idea! It actually reminds me of Frito Pie- I’ve never tried it but one of my ex-boyfriends was from Texas and would always ask me to make it for him, haha!
we have always had these since i remember i’m from Texas an we call them Frito pies we add chili with no bean nacho cheese and add anything u like in your nachos yummy
I have a question made tacos last night, can i still make this? I was thinking about putting corn chips in a baking dish then layering the taco meat, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and salsa. Put in oven and heat up for like 15-20 min.. What do you think?
I would definitely heat up the meat and cheese. I wouldn’t top it with the tomatoes, lettuce, and salsa until after you pull it out of the oven… Sounds good though.
I served Frito Chili Pies when I worked at the A & W Root Beer restaurant in my hometown 54 years ago. They’ve been served in my home also for over half a century, and my Mom and Dad used to eat them too! We topped it with grated cheese and onions. Now I make the chili with my own home-made low sodium DIY seasoning in a large batch and divide it into individual portions to be used with a pound of ground beef. My hubby loves it so much I usually make two pounds because he always wants more, and I use leftover chili in soft corn tortillas or to make enchiladas with. This is a real kid-pleaser recipe!
