Butter Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

• 1 cup butter
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 2 tbs orange juice
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 2 1/2 cups flour

Preparation

Step 1

Mix first six ingredients with mixer until fluffy Gradually stir in flour by hand until well mixed. Chill 2-3 hours in refrigerator until firm enough to roll out with rolling pin. Preheat oven to 400°. Roll out half of the dough at a time on floured board until 1/8 - 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with your cutters, sharp edge down and place cookies on ungreased cookie sheet.

Decorate at this stage with colored sugar crystals, chocolate jimmies, raisins or nuts, or leave plain for decorating with icing after baking.

Bake 6-10 minutes or until edges of cookies are light brown. Remove from cookie sheet and cool on wire rack.
