Ingredients

  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 2 cups chopped mushrooms
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup chopped carrot
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 ounces lean ground beef
  • 6 ounces lean ground turkey breast
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 TBSP red wine vinegar
  • 1 TBSP worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 8 oz. no~salt added tomato sauce
  • Six (1.5 oz) whole-wheat hamburger buns, toasted

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add mushrooms, onion, green bell pepper, celery, carrot and garlic. Saute until tender; remove from pan and set aside.

Salt and pepper the turkey and ground beef, add to skillet. Cook and crumble the meat until brown and cooked through. Add veggies back to skillet. Stir in ketchup, red wine vinegar, worcestershire sauce, oregano and tomato sauce; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
