Ingredients
- .5 cup butter
- 1.5 cup buttermilk
- 2 pkg active dry yeast
- .5 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 4 cups sifted flour
- 1/2 cup jam
- 1 beaten egg
- 1/2 cup confectioners sugar
- candied red and green cherries, halved

Preparation
Step 1
In med saucepan over med heat, heat butter and buttermilk. turn into electric mixer bowl, cool to 105 degrees
Sprinkle yeast and stir. add sugar, salt and half of flour
Turn dough on lightly floured surface
knead until smooth blisters form. place in lightly greased bowl, turn grease side up and cover with towel until double (45-60 min). Knead dough again until smooth.
Roll out to 20x12 in rectangle.
Transfer to greased cookie sheet. Make slits at 1 inch intervals 3 inches long
spread center with jam
Lap ends over to form braid
Let rise again until double (60 minutes)
Preheat oven to 375
brush dough with beaten egg
bake 20-25 minutes
move bread to rack, cool
combine conf. sugar with 1 tbsp water, drizzle over bread to decorate. add cherries.
