  • 1 lb ground chuck
  • 1 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 quart water
  • 2 (4 ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 ounce unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1/2 bay leaf, crumbled
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 drops Tabasco sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 beef bouillon cubes

Preparation

Step 1

Bring the water to the boil and add the ground beef. Stir until the beef is separated and add the rest of the ingredients.
2 Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 2 to 3 hours, or until thickened. Cool, then refrigerate overnight. Skim off any accumulated fat and reheat the chili.
3 Serves with any or all of the following accompaniments:
4 1 way: cooked spaghetti.
5 2 way: finely grated cheddar cheese
6 3 way: chopped raw onion
7 4 way: cooked kidney beans
8 5 way: oyster crackers.
