Uses DRIED figs. Large figs for 6 servings; small for 4. Glass of port or Madeira is a nice accompaniement. Serve warm or at room temp.

  • 1/4 c blanched whole almonds, plus 12 extra
  • 2 TB sugar
  • 1 oz semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 12 large dried figs

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees; spread almonds on a baking sheet and toast them until they are golden and fragrant, 8-10 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool. Set aside the 12 whole (blanched) almonds. Combine the remaining almonds, sugar and chocolate in a food processor. Pulse until well combined.

Cut the stems off the figs, then cut a slit in the top of each fig and stuff with 1-2 tsp of the chocolate-nut mixture. Pinch the openings closed. Place the figs, stem ends up, on a baking sheet.

Bake for 5 minutes. ( optional: Turn over and bake for 5 minutes longer to heat through.)

Remove from oven and press 1 whole almond into each slit.
