Authentic Mrs. Fields' Cookies

This is the real thing. I heard Debbie Fields herself give this recipe out over the radio many years ago, and managed to grab a pencil quickly enough to get it down. The result is exactly like the famous (and high-priced) originals.

And here is a fabulous article about chocolate chip cookies, promoting chilling the dough for up to 36 hours and using a touch of salt on the top.

Ingredients

  • 2-1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup salted butter; softened
  • 2 egg
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Cream together the brown sugar, white sugar and butter.

Mix in eggs and vanilla.

Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Add slowly to the butter mixture.

Stir in the chips and nuts.

Chill for at least 10 minutes. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

Bake at 300 degrees for 22 to 24 minutes. Remove from oven and transfer to a cool surface immediately.


Makes 54 cookies.
