Ingredients
- FROSTING:
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 1/2 cups cake flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup cold water
- 4 egg whites
- 2 cups shortening
- 6 cups confectioners' sugar
- 1 teaspoon almond extrat
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 to 3 tablespoons milk

Step 1
In a large mixing bnowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Beat in extracts. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with water. Beat just until combined. In another mixing bowl, beat egg whites on high speed until stiff peaks form; fold into batter.
Pour into greased and floured 9-inch round baking pans. Baked at 350 degrees for 10-25 inutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes, remove from pans to wire rack to cool completely.
Mix icing and frost cakes.
