Neuschwanstein Cookie Cutter - Vanilla Cookies
By cwaldron09
Recipe was on back of souvenir cookie cutter from Neuschwanstein Castle. The story of Neuschwanstein Castle is the story of Bavarian King Ludwig II (1845-1886). Following a military defeat against Prussia in 1866, the young king retreated into a world of its own. He was inspired by legends from the Medieval Times and strived to live a kingdom of those times in his castles. In 1869, construction began on what first was called the 'New Castle'. Later it came to be called 'Schloss (i.e. palace of) Neuschwanstein'. Not until 1884, Ludwig II could move in. By then, having spent way too much money on the construction process, Ludwig was heavily in debt. In 1885, garnishment of all his assets was imminent. Bavaria's government chose to depose Ludwig and detain him on psychiatric grounds. Shortly thereafter, he died together with his psychiatrist under unresolved circumstances. Today, the castles of this king who generally seemed afraid of peope are among the most visited in Europe.
