Preparation

Step 1

Get your rice going in the cooker - I usually make 2 or 3 cups (uncooked). This is the only reason it takes an hour for this dish - I allowed time for the rice to cook.

Step 2

In a wok or large, cast iron skillet, heat the 1 TBSP of cooking oil over medium-high heat. Add your beef and garlic and let it get nice and browned before stirring.

Step 3

While Beef or Turkey is browning, in a small bowl, whisk together the sauce ingredients. Be sure to taste and adjust for sweetness and spiciness. Set aside.

Step 4

When you begin stirring the beef, add the onion. Once beef is cooked through, add your coleslaw mix. Stir often, until the cabbage is wilted to your liking.

Step 5

Add the sauce to the meat/cabbage mixture and combine. It will be bubbly and start to caramelize immediately. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes and then stir in the green onion.

Step 6

Serve over rice.

Voila!

There are lots of variations of this recipe out there but this one is adapted by me for extra sauce (for the rice) and extra spiciness. Please keep in mind that this recipe is completely adaptable. Make it as sweet and as spicy as you like. It's also good with some asian Sweet Chili Sauce drizzled on top if you like some extra sweetness.
