Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 cups french bread, cubed
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter (melted)
  • 2 handfuls of raisins-optional
  • pecans if desired-1 cup
  • Sauce:
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 1 Tbsp flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • (may add 1/4 cup rum to sauce if desired)

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350. Whisk together first four ingredients. In a 9x13 casserole dish spread out your bread cubes. Pour above mixture on bread crumbs and let it sit for 10 or so minutes. Push bread down with a spoon to make sure all bread gets wet.
In another bowl mix cinnamon, brown sugar, and butter (melted). Sprinkle over bread crumb mixture. Bake from 45-50 minutes until set.

Step 2

Sauce:
In a heavy saucepan whisk sauce ingredients and cook over medium heat. Stir constantly until sauce thickens smoothly. Top cooked pudding with sauce and serve.
