Ingredients

  • Chocolate frosting:
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1-3/4 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 4 eggs beaten
  • 2-1/4 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chunks
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Combine first 5 ingredients, stir well. Cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add eggs and vanilla, stirring until blended. Stir in pecans and chocolate chunks. Spoon mixture into a greased and floured 13x9x2 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool, spread with chocolate frosting.

Chocolate Frosting:

Combine the first 3 ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Stir in chocolate chunks and vanilla, stirring until chocolate melts. Makes 1-1/2 cups.
