Ingredients
- Nut Filling:
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1-1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1-1/4 cups walnuts or pecans, finely chopped
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon butter or margarine melted
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon maple flavoring

Step 1
Cream butter and sugar, add egg, vanilla, and salt, beating well. Combine flour and baking powder, add to creamed mixture, stirring well. Roll dough to 1/8" thickness on a floured surface. Cut with a 2-1/2" star shaped cookie cutter, and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Place a slightly rounded half-teaspoonful nut filling onto center of each star. Gently bring points of each star up and to the center, pinch points together so they stand upright, allowing filling to show through the sides. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cool slightly, remove cookies to wire racks and cool completely. 4 dozen.
Nut Filling:
Combine all ingredients, stir well.
