Ingredients

  • 1 lb. roman or cranberry beans
  • 1 large can sauerkraut, rinsed
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tbs Crisco
  • 3 heaping tbs flour
  • 1 tbs salt
  • Kielbasa

Preparation

Step 1

Soak beans a couple of hours. Rinse. Cook beans in about 3 quarts fresh water until tender. About 3 hours. Skim and clean foam. Add rinsed sauerkraut and simmer about 1/2 hour.

In a small skillet, add flour to oil and stir until brown. Add onion and garlic, fry about 5 minutes.

Mix with beans and sauerkraut. Add salt and cook together for a few minutes on low heat. Cook the kielbasa in water for a little bit and then add meat and water to gra i kupus.

If soup is thick, add as much water as you need.
