Ingredients
- 4 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp ground ginger (I used an extra tsp)
- 1 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
- 1 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1 stick unsalted butter (if salted butter, cut salt in half)
- 1/2 cup veg. shortening
- 3 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup unsulfured molasses
- 2 large eggs

Whisk flour, salt, soda, ginger, cloves, cinnamon
In another bowl with mixer: cream butter, shortening, 3 cups sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in molasses. Beat in eggs one at a time. Gradually beat in flour mixture and combine well.
In small bowl, place 1/2 cup sugar. Form dough into 2 inch balls, roll in sugar. Arrange balls 4 inches apart and flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Bake 15 minutes until puffed and golden. Cookies will look soft; don't over bake.
Transfer to rack to cool.
