Ingredients

  • 1 14 oz. box Gingerbread mix
  • 2 tsp grated orange rind
  • 1 tsp. ground mace
  • Lemon Sauce
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tblsp corn starch
  • dash of salt
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 egg yuolks
  • 1 tblsp grated lemon rind
  • 1 tblsp lemon juice
  • 1 tblsp cider vinegar
  • 2 tblsp butter

Preparation

Step 1

Gingerbread:

Add orange rind and mace to dry mix then prepare and bake according to package directions. Serve warm with lemon sauce.

Lemon Sauce:

Combine sugar, cornstarch and salt; slowly add boiling water, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Stir and simmer until bubbly, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Beat egg yolks, rind, juice and vinegar in mixing bowl. Gradually stir int he hot mixture and then return to saucepan and cook, stirring constantly, until slightly thickened. Remove from heat, add in butter and stir. Service warm over gingerbread.
