Tea - A Perfect Pot

By

Follow these brewing tips to get the most out of your tea:

Always start with cold water

Use fresh, loose leaf tea whenever possible.

Use 1 teaspoon of tea for each 6 ounces of water. For green, white or herbal teas, use 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons.

Preheat your teapot and cups with hot water from the tap. Use a tea cozy to keep the pot warm.

Green and white tea leaves are fragile; boiling water will make the tea bitter. Add 170- to 180-degree water for maximum flavor.

For black and herbal teas, boiling water (or just slightly cooler) is best.

Always pour the water over the tea leaves.

To clean your pot, scrub with a solution of 1 part lemon juice to 2 parts water.

Store tea in metal tins or wood boxes away from light, heat and moisture.

Steeping Suggestions:

Use these times as guidelines; for stronger tea, brew longer.

White and green tea: Thirty seconds to two minutes.

Black and Oolong teas: Three to four minutes.

Herbal tea: Four to five minutes.
