Gingerbread with Lemon Sauce

Ingredients
- Gingerbread:
- 2-1/4 cups plain flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tsp ginger
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp cloves
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup butter, softened
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup molasses

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9" square pan. Combine flour, sugar, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, cloves and salt. Stir in butter, water and molasses. Pour into pan. Bake 40 - 50 minutes. Cool on rack.
Lemon Sauce:
1/3 cup sugar
2 tbsp corn starch
1 1/3 cup water
2 tsp lemon peel
2 tbsp lemon juice
3 tbsp butter
Combine sugar and cornstarch. Stir in water. Bring to boil over medium heat. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir in butter, lemon peel and lemon juice. Serve over gingerbread.
