Ingredients

  • 3 T butter
  • 1/2 c chopped onion
  • 1/2 c chopped green bell pepper
  • 1/2 c chopped celery
  • 1 28 oz. can diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 2 - 3 T chopped fresh basil
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • 2 T cornstarch
  • 2 t vinegar
  • 2 t water
  • 1 1/2 cup buttered bread crumbs

Preparation

Step 1

Melt the butter in a large skillet. Add oinion, peppers & celery. Saute 3-5 min. Add tomatoes, sugar, basil, salt & pepper. Bring to a boil. Mix cornstarch with vinegar and water and stir into skillet. Pour mixture into a greased casserole & sprinkle with the buttered crumbs. Bake at 350* for 30 - 40 minutes
