  • 4 cups water
  • 2 (6-ounce) cans tomato paste (sugar-free)
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce (sugar-free)
  • 2 to 3 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
  • Dash of black pepper
  • 1 (7-ounce) package spelt or brown-rice thin spaghetti or linguine, uncooked
  • Fresh basil or Italian flat-leaf parsley, chopped

Step 1

Cooking the pasta right in the sauce is a great dinner shortcut. You don't have to watch two pots, and the pasta soaks up tons of flavor. Gluten-free pasta softens more quickly than regular pasta, so it's best to serve this right away.
Combine the beef, onion, and garlic in a large pot and cook over medium heat, stirring, until the beef crumbles and is no longer pink. Stir in the water, tomato paste, tomato sauce, chili powder, oregano, salt, and pepper, and bring the sauce to a boil. Cover, reduce the heat, and simmer for 30 minutes.

Add the pasta to the same pot. Cover and simmer, stirring often, for 20 minutes or until the pasta is tender. Serve immediately, sprinkled with chopped fresh basil or parsley.
