Preparation

Step 1

Adzuki bean tea is one of the easiest teas to make and it's REALLY good for the kidneys. I started drinking it regularly back in December when I was feeling very weak (from the Crohn's Disease and all the medications) and it made a world of difference. Medications put a lot of stress on the kidneys couple that with an infection, sickness, adrenal exhaustion, or fever, and your kidneys become completely overloaded. This tea helps lift the load.
1. Rinse 1/2-1 cup of adzuki beans and put them in a medium size soup pan.

2. Fill the pan up with water and place on stove. Boil on medium high.

4. There are several ways to do this next step. I always start with two jars. I set a strainer over the jar and spoon the liquid through the strainer - so the beans don't get in the jar AND it does not make a mess. Once the jars are filled I set them aside. I then fill the pan back up with water, and let it boil a few more minutes. The beans emit A LOT of nutrients so I can fill at least 4 jars. (You can fill until the water starts to look lighter or you think you have enough to last you a few days).

5. Set the jars aside and let them cool before putting the lids on. You can then put them in the fridge. They'll last anywhere from a few days to a week (although I usually drink mine before then). To reheat you'll put it in a pan and heat like you would tea (don't mircowave).

5. Make sure the pot is at least half full of water and let the beans cook for 20 more minutes. You won't need to stir or check on them. They will soak up the water and you can then use them in another recipe (soup, adzuki bean burgers, nori rolls, w/ rice, miso, dip, hummus) or you can put them in the fridge to cook later.

So the next time you need an energy boost, are a vegetarian in need of some protein, are taking a lot of meds, or feel yourself coming down with a cold (or want to detox/fast)...try this tea and make it a regular part of your life!
